Breech Babies

Osteopathic treatment of women carrying babies in the breech position works to gently release any imbalance and tightness in the uterus and pelvis to create space for the baby to turn his/herself.  The techniques involved are of a similar nature to those used on the cranium in very young babies.  There is no more pressure than the weight of a 20 cent coin applied.  There is no risk to mother or baby using these gentle techniques.

Head Aches/Migraines

Head aches are more common in pregnancy and can be due to postural strain on the neck or an imbalance in the cranium. It is rare a headache cannot be helped with osteopathy.

Heart Burn
The diaphragm is under more stress and tension with a growing baby underneath it. Releasing pressures on the lower oesophagus can help symptoms of heartburn.

Low Back Pain/Sciatica
Low back pain in pregnancy can simply be caused by the extra weight and changes the body has had to go through in order to adapt. It is often felt as pain in the low back, hip, buttock and leg.  Osteopathy works with the body to help it adapt to those changes more easily. Low back pain can also be caused by a pelvic dysfunction causing extra pressures on the joints of the spine and pelvis.

Morning Sickness
Patients have reported relief of morning sickness after receiving cranial osteopathy.

Rib Pain/Breathing Difficulties
Rib pain is a common complaint in pregnancy. This is due to lack of space under the ribs as the baby gets bigger and can be treated to improve function and increase space.

Sinus Problems

During pregnancy the pituitary gland (which sits in the sphenoid bone) in the head is under more demand than usual.  It is controlling high levels of hormones.  The sphenoid sinuses are in bones behind the nasal cavity and may be affected structurally.  A cranial osteopath will examine the movement and treat your sinuses with a view to improving their function.

Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction
SPD or PSD is most commonly felt as pain over the pubic bone. It can be caused by a simple misalignment of the pelvis involving the sacroiliac joints at the back. Pregnant mothers report a huge improvement to discomfort after treatment.

Transverse Babies

As with breech babies osteopathic treatment works to gently release any imbalance and tightness in the uterus and pelvis to create space for the baby to turn his/herself. The techniques involved are of a similar nature to those used on the cranium in very young babies. There is no more pressure than the weight of a 20 cent coin applied. There is no risk to mother or baby using these gentle techniques.
